Restore what was deleted

Whatever is deleted in a workspace goes to its trash first: stories, steps, releases, chapters, personas, stages, view tabs, maps and whole projects. It doesn’t matter who deleted it, you on the board or your agent through its key. Everything stays there for 30 days and is then erased.

  1. Click Trash in the sidebar of the workspace.
  2. Find the item. Each row shows what it was and what was inside (a step with 4 stories and 11 criteria), where it lay, who deleted it and when, and how many days are left before it is erased. Items an agent deleted say Agent and whose key it was.
  3. Click Restore.

The item comes back where it was and as it was: a story keeps its number, acceptance criteria with their checkmarks, stage, release, persona, assignee and agent estimate; a step comes back with its stories; a map or a project with everything in it. What deleting changed around it comes back too: a deleted release takes its stories back from the backlog and becomes active again if it was, a chapter gets its steps back, a stage gets back the stories that were moved to the default stage.

Right after you delete something on the board, a notice at the bottom of the screen offers Restore for a few seconds, so a wrong click costs nothing. An empty story, with no title, description or criteria (an Outline line you erase with Backspace), is deleted straight away: there is nothing to bring back.

  • What it lay in is deleted too. A story whose step is in the trash, or a step whose map is: restore the step or the map first. The message names it.
  • Its place is taken. A release with the same name was created on the map, or a persona or a stage with the same name in the project, or a project with the same address: rename that one and restore again.
  • Something next to it is gone. If a story’s release, persona or stage is not there, the story still comes back, without the release or persona and on the default stage, and the notice says so. If that release, persona or stage is in the trash, restoring it later puts the story back in it.

Whoever could delete an item can restore it: owners, admins and members restore stories, steps, releases, chapters, personas and tabs; only owners and admins restore stages, maps and projects. Viewers see the trash without the buttons.

Delete forever in a row’s menu and Empty trash erase for good, before the 30 days run out. Only people can do this, not agents: owners and admins empty the whole trash. Deleting a whole workspace bypasses the trash, because the trash belongs to the workspace.

Your agent deletes and restores through the same trash. It removes on its own what it created itself: duplicates, drafts, mistakes. Your work it deletes when you ask, and a map, a project, the workspace, roles and keys only when you ask for exactly that; it then says what it did. To bring something back, ask it: “Restore the step you deleted” — it finds the item with slicemap_list_trash and puts it back with slicemap_restore.
